Born 19th May 1984. Home Town Dunedin, New Zealand.
In 2002 I completed my first year at Otago Polytechnic studying
Civil Engineering. I took a years absence in 2003 completing
the first semester in 2004 before I headed overseas for 2004
programme. Attended Polytech full time 2005, before 2006
domestic Programme. I am now taking a year out from my studies
to concentrate full time on mountain biking
and have a contract with specialist mountain bike manufacturer,
Foes and will be based for the next two and a half months
in the States.
The first competitive sport I was involved in for two years
was Kart racing. I raced in the Junior Class competitor in
Dunedin, Invercargill and Christchurch. I have also enjoyed
playing soccer and basketball through school.
I am also a holder of Motorsport New Zealand National Racing
licence and a competitor in local hillclimbs, autocrosses
and racing since 1999.
During the 1990s I first took an interest in riding
mountain bikes. I had my first bike but continually wrecked
it so I borrowed Dads. I gradually upgraded this but
my riding methods soon meant I needed a proper down hill bike.
I really liked the speed of downhill.
In 1997 I began mountain bike racing and competed in the
Junior class of the down hill Otago series.
After 5 years as a junior competitor my performance overall
was strong enough to be invited to move up to the Pro-Elite
Racing Category for 2003. I have taken this next challenge
on with determination to continue improving my NZ and International
rankings.
International Rankings
End of 2005 • 139
End of 2004 • 96
End of 2003 • 148
End of 2002 • 121
My dedication to downhill racing has led me to take on a
one-on-one trainer to concentrate on my diet and fitness.
I am also now on a high performance training programme from
Cycling New Zealand and I have a personal training gym programme.
This includes base fitness training on road bike as well as
skill training. I dont mind the wet and mud but I particularly
enjoy tracks like Cardrona.
My enjoyment of mountain biking is something that I want
to share and encourage others to experience so I also train
and motivate younger mountain bikers.
